The Tale of the Lead Doll | 2002-2003 |

She had been there, day after day, for as far back as she could remember. The lead doll was lonely.

The world outside seen through a window seemed so beautiful to the lead doll. She would always sit by the window, because her only dream was out there. "The world that I can never be a part of..."

Among the beautiful houses in the village, there was a green house which was the doll's favorite. The green house had been empty for many years. One day, a family of a couple and a little girl moved in.

The little girl was very curious about her new house and started exploring everywhere in the village. The lead doll was watching her. 'I wish you can be my friend, pretty girl.'

The lead doll couldn't help thinking about the little girl. "How can I make her my friends?"

She stayed up all night making an invitation for the little girl to become her friend.

Sneaking in very carefully, she slipped the invitation under the girl's door.

And anxiously she awaited the girl's visit.

The next day, the girl, holding the card in her hand, was walking toward the storage.

She found the lead doll, staring at her with fear and wonder at first.

Then, little by little, closer, closer... They became friends.

The happiness was no longer outside of the window.

Then, one day, the girl stopped showing up to play. Worried and wondering, the doll went to her room.
"I'm sick, but nobody knows why."

Day after day, the lead doll watched the girl getting sicker and sicker. The lead doll knew that she was losing her. And the girl was gone forever.

"I lost her...I lost my friend and I lost my dream." The lead doll sadly sobbed at her death.

Sitting by the window again, the lead doll was gazing at the girl's picture for a long time.
But, after that, she suddenly said, "So, what am I going to do? I am lonely. Very lonely..."

The lead doll walked toward the wall where some old pictures were attached, and put the girl's picture up there, too. "You never know how terrible loneliness is...I need a friend."
